Tiffany Yachts is a small family run business specializing in highly customized, one of a kind yachts. The business origins date back to 1934 when Tiffany Cockrell and his father began building Chesapeake deadrise commercial vessels. After Tiffany returned from serving in damage control for the Navy during World War II, he moved into building pleasure boats. Tiffany and his family have built over 150 boats since that time, each one a unique custom designed craft.
While Tiffany Yachts still utilizes many time honored construction practices, the basic methods have been altered as technology evolved. Classic batten seam wood construction was used until 1975 when Tiffany began to use a cold molding process of wood and fiberglass bonded with epoxy resin. In 1993 Tiffany's son, Randy Cockrell developed a method of using a CAD designed one off stationary female mold to build a 72' hull. This mold produced a hand laid up FRP hull consisting of a solid fiberglass bottom and foam cored sides.
In 1999 the use of CAD design was expanded with the addition of a 5-axis CNC router. The newest project, a 68' sportfisherman used computer generated stations for the mold, resulting in a level of precision far superior to conventional lofting methods. The CNC router makes custom molds for lockers, seats, showers, etc. and greatly expands the woodworking capabilities.
